Embracing the ups and downs

After thinking for a while on what our first post at DNVRAI should be, I stumbled upon this article by Seth Godin: https://seths.blog/2023/07/without-the-bad-parts/

Three items resonated with me: the effects of strict copyright laws, the cost of convenience, and the creation of meaningful work. In general, I’m not a fan of stringent copyrights, but I’m all in for convenience and meaning. Still, it makes me wonder, can we strike a balance between the good and the bad?

In a world with less stringent copyright laws, creations could become a communal resources that everyone could adapt and evolve. It’s an exciting prospect to be able to freely adapt and evolve other’s work, but do I want other people copying my work? Maybe if I’m fairly compensated? The ongoing writers and actors strike seems to be mostly about compensation (aren’t all strikes?). While I’ve seen some discussion about the impact of AI on writers and actors, I doubt either group would be that opposed to making a decent income off work that their digital replicas performed. Perhaps this would usher in a new era of creativity and innovation where we area all freed from the mundane parts of our jobs and freed to focus on creative work.

On the topic of convenience, Seth notes the loss in quality accompanying our commoditization of everything. Certain aspects of life, like access to clean water, should undoubtedly be convenient, but shouldn’t we savor the effort required for things of higher quality, like a good meal or an innovative artwork? Back to the actors and writers, I don’t really mind if commercial video work is artificially generated, but I like to think that the award winning content will always contains some spark of human creative genius. After all, state-of-the-art AI still depends on a set of human training data and will always be hungry for something new.

This is the very essence of DNVRAI, the pursuit of meaningful work. Creating something from nothing, be it a business or work of art. This is one of the hardest and most magical things a human can do. While AI can’t offer you the spark of creative inspiration, technology can offer a hand with the mundane and empower us to focus on joy of creation. If you’re ready to explore the power of these technologies and unlock your creative potential, join us on this journey.
